About The Venue

This is a fun ride around Lake Carl Blackwell with easy to moderate trails.  Stillwater is 9 miles from camp.  Dogs, cats, and pot-bellied pigs on leashes are welcomed.  Please take manure to the poop pile; also, there are huge trash containers available for your trash deposit.  All breeds and genders of equines are welcomed and encouraged!

Current negative Coggins papers dated with 12 months must be presented for all equines in camp.  Additionally, the State of OK requires health papers dated within 30 days of the ride for all out-of-state equines.

Camping fees and stall rentals are available online at the Lake Carl Blackwell website.   Click here to reserve your electric / water or primitive campsite and stall (optional).   https://lake.okstate.edu/campgrounds/hunts_meadow.html

Please Note that if you are not camping and are only coming for a day, there is a $5 Day Use Fee payable at the box as you come into Hunt's Meadow.

If you are camping, please stop at the Park Office FIRST before coming to camp.

Event Details

Saturday, we will start with the Trail Challenge (TC), a relaxing trail ride with judged obstacles along the trail and possibly in camp. All riding disciplines are welcome.

We'll break for lunch, then transition to the Obstacle Course (OC), a mounted event in the campground. A saddle (treeless included) and headstall with reins are required.  All riding disciplines are welcome.

All equines welcome – any size, breed, and age. Awards and potluck will follow an hour after the last handler is off course.  We will honk the horn once all points are tallied and results printed.

Feel free to bring your dish to the pavilion to visit before the horn sounds!

On Sunday, we will have an Obstacle Trail (OT) – a relaxing short trail ride with judged obstacles along the trail and possibly in camp. All riding disciplines are welcome.  About 30 minutes after the last riders are off course, we'll transition to the In Hand (IH) challenge, a dismounted event in the campground, halter and lead rope preferred  Awards will follow an hour after the last rider is off course.  We will honk the horn and meet you at the pavilion.  We will hustle getting points tallied and results printed so riders can head home after our weekend of fun!

The Terrain

The trail is mostly barefoot friendly, relatively flat, a gully here or there, with some water crossings.  The trail moves from woods to meadow in the tall prairie grass.

Meals

There will be no food or water on site (although there are hydrants throughout camp dispensing potable water).  The Lake Store is one mile away and serves, among other things, excellent pizza!  There are also numerous restaurants nine miles away in Stillwater, including the world-famous Eskimo Joe's.

Please bring a Pot Luck Dish for Saturday evening. Please bring your own plates, utensils, drinks, etc.
