Thunder Ridge Riding Center has moved to an exciting new venue! We have moved to the south side of the Clark Fork River still in beautiful Heron, Montana, 3/4 of a mile from the Idaho/Montana state line. We now have 400 gorgeous forested acres to play on with abundant wildlife and trails. While you are here you may see deer, elk, and maybe catch a glimpse of a moose or black bear. Access is easy and large rigs are welcome! The property backs up to Kootenai National Forest with stunning views of the Cabinet Mountains to the north and the Monarch Range to the south. If you'd like to "Come early and stay late," there is ample opportunity to ride, hike, and fish in the Clark Fork River or in nearby Lake Pend Oreille. The nearest town (9 miles) is Clark Fork, Idaho with gas and convenience shopping, and Sandpoint, Idaho (34 miles) is our major shopping hub.
We are super excited to be collaborating with The Amber Bear Inn and Casino, owned by Mike and Nancy Masten. The Amber Bear folks are offering limited 50 amp services for rigs, have several rooms available for lodging if needed, and will be providing meals for the event!
Unlimited dry camping is available and if you need a paddock, they will be electric poly-wire fencing. There may be limited cattle panel paddocks available, please call, email, or message if you need one.
If you desire lodging you'll want to make your reservations early for Memorial Day Weekend!! Visit http://amberbearinn.com/index.html for information and reservations!
This event will be a patriotic-themed event! Expect red, white, and blue everywhere!
You and your horse will be challenged by several natural obstacles along the trail. Expect Flags, banners, and special obstacles designed to honor those who have made our freedom possible! We are constantly developing trails and obstacles that will challenge and satisfy all of our riders, novice to advanced! Feel free to join in by wearing your patriotic tack and apparel!
The terrain is mixed, with wide groomed trails on the flat, wide double-track logging road type trails up into the mountains, with some rock and gravel in the upper elevations. If it is rainy, or still wet from melting snow, there will be some muddy spots on the trails. This weekend may also feature some leftover snow!
Meals offered will be Continental Breakfast Saturday and Sunday, Lunch Saturday and Sunday (sandwich/snack/drink), and a barbeque dinner Saturday night! All meals will be provided by the Amber Bear Inn Restaurant. You may purchase meals ala carte or save a few bucks and purchase a meal ticket for the entire event. If you have special dietary needs let us know and we will try to accommodate you.
Beautiful ribbons 1st-6th place Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced! 1st-3rd place Junior (age 13-17), 1st-3rd place Youngin' (age 7-12), and 1st place Newcomer! We will also award the "Most Patriotic" apppearance!!
