About The Venue

The Santa Cruz County Horsemen's Association has a long history of supporting the surrounding equine community for almost 80 years. The objectives of the organization are to perpetuate interest in all horse activities, create and maintain a better knowledge and understanding between the human and equine families, and develop and maintain a county-wide trails system.

Event Details

This two-day challenge will consist of FOUR events in Field & Trail

Saturday In-Hand Obstacle Challenge (IH) - the In-Hand event obstacles are completed dismounted. You may be saddled, halters with leads are recommended. All non-riding equines are welcome and encouraged to compete!

Saturday Trail Challenge (TC)  - A beautiful 6 mile trail ride with judged obstacles placed in camp and/or on trail.

Sunday Mounted Obstacle Challenge (OC)  - the Mounted event obstacles are completed while riding in the saddle in the arena. All riding disciplines are welcome as well as bit-less head stalls.

Saturday Trail Challenge (TC) A relaxing 6 mile trail ride with judged obstacles placed in camp and/or on the trail.

The Terrain

Large obstacle playground on flat footing, single & double track trails, moderate hills, stream & bridge crossings, moderate rocky areas on trail.

Meals

At your leisure, bring own lunch

Awards

Beautiful ribbons 1st-10th place Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced Per Event!

1st-3rd place Junior (age 13-17)

1st-3rd place Youngin' (age 7-12)

and 1st place Newcomer!

Additional Fees

Payment for ALL Amenities reserved at the time of online registration are due ON SITE and are NOT collected at the time of online event registration.

Camping $25/night (includes 1 person & 1 equine) (SCCHA members free) 

Extra Horse $5/night (SCCHA members free)

Extra Person $10/night (SCCHA members free)

Day parking $10 (SCCHA members free)

$14 California Drug Fee is collected per horse per weekend

From SACRAMENTO:

Follow I-80 W for 147.3 mi. use the right 2 lanes to take exit 40 for I-680 toward Benicia/San Jose for .0.5 mi, continue onto I-680 S for 57.6 mi, take exit 12 to merge onto CA-262 S/Mission Blvd for 0.5 mi. merge onto CA-262 S/Mission Blvd, use the left 2 lanes to merge onto I-880 S toward San Jose for 1.7 mi, keep left to stay on I-880 S for 11.3 mi, follow CA-17 S to Graham Hill Rd for 25.1 mi, continue onto CA-17 S for 24.3 mi, take the La Madrona Dr exit toward El Rancho Dr for 312 ft, turn left onto La Madrona Dr for 0.2 mi, turn right onto Sims Rd for 0.5 mi, turn right onto Graham Hill Rd, The showgrounds entry gate is on the left.

From SF BAY AREA: proceed to Hwy 17 South through San Jose and Los Gatos, to Scotts Valley. After passing Scotts Valley, take the Sims Road Exit. As you exit 17, take an immediate left onto La Madrona and then a right at the stop sign onto Sims Road, and follow it until it dead ends at the traffic light. Take a right onto Graham Hill Road and proceed about 500 feet. The showgrounds entry gate is on the left.
